Official Gene Autry Filmography Book Deal Signed!

February 17, 2006

Gene Autry Entertainment is pleased to announce that Gene Autry’s feature film and television history will be fully documented in an authorized book by renowned Western journalist and author Boyd Magers. Tentatively titled Gene Autry Westerns, the book will be the first time that a complete accounting of the Cowboy’s cinematic work as well as every episode of his landmark television series The Gene Autry Show is presented together in a comprehensive overview. In addition to extensive details about each film ranging from cast and crew information to filming locations, Boyd’s book will provide sidebar notes, trivia, and co-star and co-worker interviews to further provide the essence and spirit of the shows. Also included will be remarks from Gene Autry on his film and television work.  These comments have been collected over the years from various interviews and programs such as Melody Ranch Theater.

Boyd and his very own “leading lady” wife Donna Magers are extensively researching the book in Gene Autry’s archive files located at Gene Autry Entertainment and at the Autry National Center’s Museum of the American West.  This includes original production files, photographs, scripts, press books and correspondence regarding the movies and television episodes. And of course, there are hours of Gene Autry’s trademark music, comedy and action to watch from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.

As the author of such Western books as Westerns Women, So You Wanna See Cowboy Stuff? (The Western Movie/TV Tour Guide), and the recently published Best of the Badmen, Boyd is highly knowledgeable in the genre of Western movies and television.  Since 1994, his Western Clippings bi-monthly publication has kept fans informed and up to date on all things regarding the vintage and contemporary world of Western entertainment.  This, and his respect and appreciation of Gene Autry, makes Boyd more than qualified to write and comment on the legendary film history of the man who established the B Western.
