Our second Dinner and a Movie night at the Autry National Center was a fun family event with delicious food, a special museum tour-talk, and the first ever screening of the digitally restored Gene Autry feature film Home on the Prairie in the museum’s Wells Fargo Theater.

The warm evening began with some of the tastiest BBQ you’ve ever dined on at a museum! Folks enjoyed grilled corn on the cob, BBQ chicken and ribs, Caesar Salad, and a dessert choice of a luscious lemon bar or scrumptious brownie. And a beverage was also included in the meal. The evening’s activities continued with a special tour in the Cowboy Gallery by Autry Museum Senior Curator Michael Duchemin.

The Gene Autry Raffle Drawing, with Gene Autry merchandise generously donated by the Autry Museum Store, was very popular! Six winners were drawn by Karla Buhlman before the movie and six more winners were drawn after the movie in the Museum Store. The winners were all very excited and ranged in age from grade school to grandpa. A “Big Raffle Prize” of fabulous Gene Autry items valued at $275 will be given away on our last screening on July 28th.

After Karla drew the six Raffle winners, she gave a talk on Gene Autry Entertainment and the upcoming books they are working on in conjunction with the Gene Autry Centennial in 2007. After briefing the eager audience on the movie, we all enjoyed the digital presentation of Gene Autry in Home on the Prairie. All agreed that Gene looks fabulous in his many Western shirts, and this film has the “best jailbreak EVER!”

Soon after the movie, folks gathered in the Museum Store to see who won the next six Gene Autry Gift Bags, ask Karla their Gene Autry questions, and, of course, shop for wonderful items in the store. A good time was had by all and the majority of folks said they would be back next week.

Do come join us for the next Dinner and a Movie night when we screen Blue Canadian Rockies. We’ve got everything you need for a fun evening with the family: free parking, tasty food, an air conditioned venue, and an entertaining Gene Autry movie!
