Gene Autry’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star of Radio is located at 6520 Hollywood Blvd.

Gene Autry first appeared on radio in 1928 on KVOO in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His radio career advanced in December of 1931 when he got on the WLS Barn Dance in Chicago. His huge popularity on the radio and his many hit records lead the way to motion pictures in 1934 where he quickly established the Singing Cowboy B Western movie genre.

Then on December 31, 1939 he began a weekly show on the CBS radio network – Gene Autry's Melody Ranch Radio Show. This popular live radio program had music, comedy, and an action filled drama. Entertainer Gene Autry became Sgt. Gene Autry on July 26, 1942 when he was sworn into the Army Air Corps during the live broadcast. His radio show then became the Sgt. Gene Autry Radio Show from August 1, 1943 until July 2, 1942. After World War II, Gene returned to entertainment and the Melody Ranch Radio Show on September 23, 1945. When Gene finally finished his career as a radio star on May 13, 1956, he had made 723 weekly broadcasts for CBS.
