Mellow Mountain Moon
Gene Autry's Melody Ranch Radio Show
(April 7, 1940)

Gene Autry's performance of "Mellow Mountain Moon" from his "Melody Ranch" radio show and Gene is backed by the Texas Rangers and Johnny Marvin's Orchestra. The program was still very new (just four months on the CBS Radio Network by April 7, 1940) but was wildly popular across the United States. The radio show was broadcast live in front of an audience and this episode originated from the KNX Playhouse in Hollywood California.

The show included music and comedy as well as an action packed drama. Just before Gene sings in this clip of "Mellow Mountain Moon," you hear the tail end of the drama. After the song, you hear a commercial from the show's sponsor, "refreshing, delicious Doublemint Chewing Gum."
