The California State Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles honored Gene during the summer of 1980 with a thirteen-week exhibit and film retrospective.

When the Lights Go on Again (All Over the World)
The Sergeant Gene Autry Show
(July 4, 1943)

When Gene Autry went into the Army Air Forces in 1942 his popular radio show, "Melody Ranch," became the "Sergeant Gene Autry Show." His Sunday, February 21, 1943 program was broadcast live from the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center in San Antonio, Texas. It is the largest training pool for pilots, bombardiers, and navigators in the world. Sgt. Autry notes in the show's introduction that "This is the world's largest incubator for victory wings."

At the beginning of the show, the announcer says the following:

"In addition to his regular Army Duties, Sgt. Autry brings to the radio audience each Sunday afternoon, a half hour of interesting facts and stories of this important and exciting branch of our armed services. Sgt. Autry no longer represents Doublemint Gum and receives no compensation other than his regular Army pay. But in order that you may continue to hear his songs and Army Air Force stories, Doublemint Gum is happy to make this broadcast time available."

The "Sergeant Gene Autry Show" included comedy, a story, and some swell songs. For this romantic wartime number, Sgt. Autry is backed by Carl Cotner's Orchestra.
