Brief Synopsis:

Foreman Gene Autry leads a manhunt for the killer of his boss, owner of the Rocking R Ranch. Gene sends for the owner’s niece and heir, but outlaw killers have some plans of their own for the ranch.

Detailed Synopsis:

Ward Clagett and his gang run a protective racket on ranchers – a case of pay-up or get a bullet in your back. When a rancher is killed off, Clagett buys the ranch for a song from the widow. Gene Autry, foreman of the Rocking R Ranch, owned by Tom Randall, is present when a mysterious rider kills Tom. The heavies then try to bushwhack Jed Nolan. Because of the timing involved, Gene suspects there must be inside help. In order to get control of the Rocking R, Clagett kidnaps Tom's heir and niece, Deborah, from the incoming stage and substitutes his sister, Nina. Attempts are made on Gene's life. Gene comes to the conclusion that Nina is an impostor, but can't yet prove it, so he and Pat pull a ruse to get Nina to show her hand. Gene trails her to the hideout, while Pat goes for the sheriff and his posse. Gene rescues the real Deborah and runs head on into the whole gang. During the melee that follows, Clagett accidentally shoots Nina. Pat arrives with the Sheriff just in time.
