In 1950, Gene was named one of "America's Ten Best-Dressed Men."
As every Gene Autry fan knows, Gene is the only entertainer to have five stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. One of the stars is for his work in television, both in front of and behind the camera. He was the first major movie star to produce and star in a weekly series for TV, The Gene Autry Show, which debuted on July 23, 1950, placing Gene immediately in the ranks of television's topmost attractions. His production company Flying A Pictures would also make other popular 1950s Western television series: Annie Oakley, The Range Rider, Buffalo Bill Jr., and The Adventures of Champion.
Western movie fans and film historians have credited Gene with setting the precedent for the popularity of the Western on television; indeed, over two dozen TV Western series would follow Gene's lead in the 1950s and 1960s.
