Detailed Synopsis:

Gypsy Gerelda and her grandfather Alonzo accidentally surprise outlaws holding up a stage. The bandits try to kidnap Gerelda, but Gene Autry and Pat Buttram arrive just in time to rescue them. Judge Thaddeus Fawcett, supposedly a reputable citizen and an old friend of Sheriff Clay Cody, learns that the gypsies can identify his nephew as one of the outlaws. In reality, the judge is the outlaw leader and tries to throw all the blame on the gypsies. Gene becomes suspicious of the judge, and his hunch pays off when two of the judge's riders try to rustle valuable horses. One rider is caught and put in jail. The judge decides to take drastic action by having his riders dress as gypsies, commit jewel thefts, and plant the evidence at the gypsy camp. Gene provides bail for the gypsies after learning that one of the judge's riders was responsible for sending Alonzo on a wild good chase. The sheriff then gives Gene twenty-four hours to prove their innocence. During the skirmish that ensues, Gene stops a runaway wagon and tracks the real criminals right to the judge's desk.
